The founder of Velominati and curator of The Rules, Frank was born in the Dutch colonies of Minnesota. His boundless physical talents are carefully canceled out by his equally boundless enthusiasm for drinking. Coffee, beer, wine, if it’s in a container, he will enjoy it, a lot of it. He currently lives in Seattle. He loves riding in the rain and scheduling visits with the Man with the Hammer just to be reminded of the privilege it is to feel completely depleted. He holds down a technology job the description of which no-one really understands and his interests outside of Cycling and drinking are Cycling and drinking. As devoted aesthete, the only thing more important to him than riding a bike well is looking good doing it. Frank is co-author along with the other Keepers of the Cog of the popular book, The Rules, The Way of the Cycling Disciple and also writes a monthly column for the magazine, Cyclist. My thoughts are also with the victims of the terrorist attack in Lebanon.

The VMH and I rent our spare room via airBnb. Our current guest is from Beirut and I talked with him about this. The bombing was 30 km from his home. Wow, no idea how to even make sense of that. He's a sweet, kind person and just had this horror in his own hometown.

Is the reason we ride these simple machines a method to get away from the awful machinations of man?

Agreed. Horrendous and it happens everywhere around the world. I remember after 911 here in the States, Tom Morello posted an open letter on the RATM site about how this happens everywhere all the time; it had simply just finally reached our own shores. He caught some shit for it, but that didn't make him wrong.

Finding it a bit ironic that Kiwis seem to have forgotten who is the only nation to commit a terrorist attack on our soil. "It was a long time ago" and "it was only a couple of victims" seems to be the line there... I didn't realise terrorism had a shelf-life and a sliding scale of relevance.

The world is fucked and there's nothing we can do. Thanks Rothschilds/Bilderberg/Bohemian Club/NWO.

He was wrong. 911 was a once in a generation event. Like Pearl Harbor. And people may today still be losing their lives as a result of their association with the events of that day.

Except for the 'gay' tag, I agree with @bill. Ironic that the things we do to be seeming to be doing something is 'praying' and displaying flags, which are two of the main causes of the world's ills. Who the fuck are you praying to? I don't think they are listening somehow.
