Velominati Super Prestige: Le Tour de France Stage 19

Photo: John Pierce/Photosport International

After such an epic and, frankly, shocking (as in stunning, stupendifying and surprising) stage to the Galibier last night, it’s going to take more than a few hours to recover and get back on track for tonight’s VSP stage to the mythical L’Alpe d’Huez.

I think the semantics of Stage 18 have been covered brilliantly by the Community here, and there’s nothing left for me to say about it except, wow.

So without further ado, and with the maximum time for you to get your tips in, we present the VSP for Stage 19, the Queen of the climbs, L’Alpe d’Huez. Sit back and enjoy the spectacle, because if you though that was good, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet!

You know the drill. Good luck!

Brett

  • That was just amazing. Don't feel bad at all that I haven't got a lick of work done today.

  • Also, know there's some hate for JV, but Garmin-Cervelo has been a lot of fun to watch. Great tour for them.

Grenoble. Now we will see. If the gap is less than 10s after that, will there we a GC race into Paris? Double. Dog. dare.

Every bone in my body says they'll respect the tradition, but who know at this point.
    WHAT.A.TOUR.

Cadel will not attack the tradition. Nor will Andy. Bertie has already enjoyed the Paris procession and won't attack either.

    Grenoble it is...

  • Both Andy and Frank will start after cuddles. They will have all the checks to aim at. It may be like LeMan and Fignon all over again. Tick. tick. tick. Someone better have the EMTs on hand. Not necessarily for the riders, but for Ligget and Sherwin.

Completely agree. They seem to be men of honour (well, not sure about Bertie but he will not be close enough to matter anyways!)

I feel bad for Evans, in the right move at the right time, but if it's really a mechanical, that is complete shit. If it was a phychanical and he didn't have the legs, then that's just racing.

Frank it was "just racing" to get back on the pedals & get back to the front where he needed to be...granted the situation was much different than last year but guarantee that had that occurred to a certain Leotard Schleck rider, all we'd hear about is how that ruined his tour.

That's something Cuddles would have reacted exactly the same way to a couple of years ago, hence his initial reputation within the road racing field...difference is he's grown the stones to deal with it and move beyond it, time will tell whether Andy either has or will.

Frandy finish side by side. What a f%@king surprise.

A glance at those finish line photos and I don't think anyone can deny they fucking did everything they could. Every fucking one of 'em.
    Fuck, what an amazing race.

Was that Andy doing a pretty reasonable Tommy (post stage 18) impression about 3 metres over the line...fuck his legs must be shot right now!!!!

Fuck, what an amazing race. The organizers really got a good route together this time. This is Giro Epic.

The last four days of racing puts the Giro to shame. The racing has been far superior.

Mike Tomalaris just came in his pants (ditzy know-nothing Aussie TV guy).

Seriously, he can sod off. He's been covering the Tour for the last 15 years & still knows nothing about cycling except that Pharmstrong was pretty successful one upon a time...
