Velominati Photo Contest: Season 2012

This isn’t the winner, but its my second-favorite of me from 2012

Truth be told, how many of us can resist a photo of ourselves Looking Fantastic on the bike? How many of us can resist the temptation of taking our eyes off the road and stealing a glimpse of ourselves in a shop window as we pass by? Not me, but then again a strong case could be made for my being a narcissist and I freely admit that I love looking at photos of myself riding, though this is mostly because they take me back to the experience I was having at the time.

This time of year has us looking back at the season past and getting nostalgic about the best rides and moments of the year. In the coming Holiday week, the Keepers will be naming The V Moment and the Anti-V Moment of the year, but we thought we’d give the community an opportunity to get a bit narcissistic and share our favorite photos from 2012.

With that, we announce the first annual Velominati Photo Contest. To enter, post your favorite photo(s) from 2012 below and The Keepers will monitor the conversation and use our judgement to name a winner on January 1st, 2013. The winner will receive a free pair of Witte V-Socks (available in the first quarter of next year) and the top three photos will be offered as VVallpapers. Just as with the VSP, The Keepers can post photos and are eligible to win, of course, but we are excluded from the prizes.

Even as I write this I know we won’t be able to resist posting photos of ourselves laying down The V; I already did it in the lead photo of this article. Nevertheless, the photos don’t have to be of yourself, they can be of anything so long as you took the photo or you have permission from the photographer to share it.

Have at it and so far so good on the world not ending.

The founder of Velominati and curator of The Rules, Frank was born in the Dutch colonies of Minnesota. His boundless physical talents are carefully canceled out by his equally boundless enthusiasm for drinking. Coffee, beer, wine, if it’s in a container, he will enjoy it, a lot of it. He currently lives in Seattle. He loves riding in the rain and scheduling visits with the Man with the Hammer just to be reminded of the privilege it is to feel completely depleted. He holds down a technology job the description of which no-one really understands and his interests outside of Cycling and drinking are Cycling and drinking. As devoted aesthete, the only thing more important to him than riding a bike well is looking good doing it. Frank is co-author along with the other Keepers of the Cog of the popular book, The Rules, The Way of the Cycling Disciple and also writes a monthly column for the magazine, Cyclist. I like this picture of me and the Mrs. I bought her a bike for Mother's day and by summer she was able to do the Cycle de Vine in Chelan, Washington. Not sure if this is v or anti-v but it was pretty cool to introduce someone new to the cycling world.

Me (in the Rapha kit), right behind Pippo Pozzato, riding the Grand Fondo Giro d'Italia of Miami in the front. Along side Pippo, was Danilo Di Luca, and my hero, Mario Cipollini aka God. I have more pics...

2nd one, is me trying not to tremble as I hold the holy trophy of cycling AKA Trofeo Senza Fine, AKA The Giro d'Italia Trophy.

3rd would be the Gran Fondo Giro d'Italia 2012 Starting Line. I am right behind the Trophy in the Rapha kit, please try to take your eyes off Claudia Romani and the other trophy girl and note members of the Farnese Vini Team "keeping it real" along side an advice giving Danilo Di Luca in a tasteful Aqua & Sapone kit. My god...this happened.

I think mebbe he is a Jockinese, quite a lot of them say 'soaks' and other such things like 'hoose' 'moose' 'dug' etc.

Thanks. To give credit where credit is due, the photo was taken by one of Cannibal Velo Club members that joined the handful of Velominati for the cogal. Mike K maybe?
