V-Announcements: New Photo Upload Tool

WE’VE BEEN BUYSSE

We interrupt our usual programming to announce that we have quietly been building and testing an upgraded photo upload tool, which now supports mobile devices and tablets, as well as adding captions to album photos.

There is also beta support for pasting photos into the post editor, although in our testing this has been a bit hit or miss; I’ll be continuing to work on this feature and hopefully it will work properly before Velominati becomes obsolete. (We aren’t obsolete yet, right?)

Cheers, please don’t gratuitously upload photos just to test this out, but when you do upload something, please let me know whether it works for you or not. Remember you must be logged in before uploading photos.

  1. Dunno how you find the time Frank, awesome.

    Obsolete? Nah, but you could argue Velominati jumped the shark years ago… ha

  2. Some site called Instagram helped people post photos of their feet and later sold to Facebook for 1 trillion dollars.

    Now at Velominati you can post photos of bikes, mountains, hills, and other things that are actually useful.

    I predict an IPO for Frank very soon. Or maybe an IPA. Or some EPO.

  3. Typical, you launch this the morning after I cock up the order of the images in the gallery I posted over in the rides! Good thing I’ve just been emailed some more images to upload & test the system!

  4. Velominati is like Playboy; everyone just pretends to read the articles.

    (Great pictures all around, though. Awesome stuff and I’ve already identified a bug based on what got uploaded, so in all seriousness, thanks.)

  5. @Sally

    That coffee looks aces.

    @G’rilla

    @mcsqueak Thanks for posting that photo of a cappuccino.

    Next, would you please treat us to a photo of your feet on a beach.

    I’d also like an update as to whether or not that coffee was tasty.

  6. @G’rilla

    I’ll be in Hawaii next may, I’ll take a rain check on that and get back to you then.

    @frank

    It was quite possibly the best cappuccino I’ve ever had.

  7. @Cyclops The cobble pic is awesome, as for hotdogs, my brain just exploded, yummaaaaaayyy…

    Ahem, here is a proper shot of climbone I posted a while ago. Check the circle with the bridge to go back over itself.. If I ever make it to the land of the Golden Dragon, I’m going straight here…

  8. Total Eddy porn.  Got an Belgian Army bud to track down the Great One’s business and walked in through the loading dock.  Johan’s dirty bike (2002) was just leaning against the wall outside.  A generous and magmanimous host to two American knuckleheads.

    Yes, this.  I click on article page and scroll through related pictures, then go back and read article.  Just like a certain magazine !

    My uploads from iPhone not working however, click on the photo upload and screen goes blank and then page to screen saver ???

    Nice detail on the choice race number.

    @Barracuda

    That makes no sense to me the way you’re describing that; please be more specific if you can. Also, what browser on the iPhone are you using, and which OS version? I am not aware of a screen saver on iPhones.

  11. This is awesome!  Looks like it would work just fine on my iPad…clean and easy!

  12. So a pre-ride smoothie and a warm-up at the same time?  Could also be used as an excuse for an n+1 (not that having no good excuse has ever stopped me from +1ing)

  14. Just joined the V after a year of indoctrination following a Leeds to Paris cycle challenge this summer on a borrowed Colnago Dream and had to built one for myself. I know I’ve committed some rules violations but I’m learning. The ride is named the Colonel. It’s all about the bike.

    Note all The V.

    Ohhhhhhhhh Stelvio, how I miss thee.  Today I hit the 4,000 km mark for the year, and 4500+ for the rolling last 12 months in the best year of training in my life.  I can’t wait to return to the lady (and the Gavia and Mortirolo) and do another TT effort to compare to my effort earlier this year as part of a Belgian sportive.  If you’ve never been, especially if you’ve never done any ‘real’ climbing before I can only say it was an indescribably beautiful experience!  Perhaps the most picturesque moment of my life.  Will be cycling through my 2nd Belgian winter in anticipation of my return.

  16. Having great difficulty uploading a photo into a post with iPad, Macbook, iPhone 5 and on the home PC.  The photo uploader seems to simply hang, copy and paste does put the photo into the post, clicking submit then shows it in the timeline however a refresh or revisit then has no trace. Is it something I’m doing wrong at my end? I’ve had success now and again but more often than not, frustrating failure. Any advice would be appreciated folks.

  17. You actually make it seem really easy along with your presentation but I find this
    topic to be actually something which I feel I would never understand.
    It kind of feels too complicated and very
    extensive for me. I am taking a look ahead in your subsequent post, I will try to get
    the dangle of it!
