Velominati Super Prestige: Giro d’Italia Internazionale Femminile 2016
That is quite a name. And it is quite a race, no rest days, ten days of racing in Italy. This must be the biggest race in the Women’s World Tour and if it is anything like the men’s race is should be great. Let’s hope there is some decent TV coverage. The start list is here. The route map must be classified, sorry. Imagine a course in Northern Italy: mountains, valleys, plains. Anna van der Breggen won it last year but she will have to contend with Lizzy Armitstead in this edition. The Mortirolo is here, time trials, sprints, with ten days of racing, the winner should have mad all around skills
Everyone knows the drill. This race starts on a Friday so mind the countdown banner. These are good points people, so consider your choices, do your research, then select you know who.

Think the Queen will be looking for Rio rather than the Giro, but she’ll still make the top 5 while assisting Guarnier.

You had two of the same riders in your picks; those two picks have been deleted. Please re-enter them. Thanks.

Third attempt. Thanks @Frank for the heads up. No excuse

Really hoping I can find this broadcast in the States or streaming!

I sprained a wrist re-typing “Niewiadoma” until I got it right. I may be out for the season. And my contract ends. Anybody have Cannondale’s number?

Any news on coverage?
@John Irvine
Leah Kirchmann takes the prologue. Oh Canada!!
http://www.cyclingnews.com/races/giro-ditalia-internazionale-femminile-2016/prologue/results/
Is there a feminine Delgado? I don’t expect so. If she was late she’d have an excuse and it would be the starter’s fault.
@harminator
wtf? This is a bit mysogynist, innit? I thought we were moving past this sort of lame shit.
@Oli
Hear hear.
@John Irvine
Sarah Connolly can’t find any — we’re all doomed!
But, no, it looks like there is virtually nothing, which is both ridiculous and depressing in equal measure.
@mulebeatsdrums
Results here but not coverage as in video if that’s what you mean.
How much coverage would you expect if the women’s Football World Cup was scheduled against the men’s tournament.
I don’t know who is to blame but there seems to be very little understanding about how media, advertising and sponsorship actually works when it comes to women’s cycling.
@mulebeatsdrums
Point taken. I missed the start. I didn’t know if there was a case of a woman missing the start of a race that could be he feminine version of Delgado. Instead I posted mysoginist lame shit. Hill repeats for me.

@Harminator
Fair enough. We’ve all made misjudged attempts at comedy in our time.
I can’t think of a notable female equivalent of Doing a Delgado.
This isn’t really relevant, but should have a place in the Lexicon: Lizzie won the opening stage of Tour of Britain last year, then crashed into some journalists and broke something, making her possibly the only person to have won a leader’s jersey then abandoned before actually wearing it on the road — I’m happy to be corrected on that. Someone must have won a VSP event and Delgadoed the following one, no?
@Oli
Lame sexist shit perhaps. Misogynist is rather a strong word. I very much doubt that making a joke about a stereotypical female running a bit late equates to Harminator actually hating women.

trying to link to Stage 2 highlights but too dumb. From Sarah.
Bump for July 4th. Any more updates?
@oldensteel
Chloe Hosking won a bunch sprint last night, nothing in the race report but I wonder if there was a crash in the run in, as Armitstead appears to have rolled in about 1m down on the bunch…Evie Stevie is still in pink.

“The lack of information coming from the Giro Rosa has been quite substantial, but today has been even worse than the stages before. We can therefore not tell you very much about what happened during the stage.”

This is disappointing. And the women are putting on a heck of a race.

Thanks for the updates! Top ten is very close thus far. The ladies are riding tough.
Another (apparently) exciting stage, if there were any coverage of it. Sounds like Mara Abbott just KILLED it over the Mortirolo.
@frank
Quote from Emma Pooley “just glad I wasn’t really shit on the climb”. Brilliant! Thank you Andrew for this
On this site, where we spend
an inordinate amounta lot of time admiring each others – and other guys – legs, am I allowed to note how cute Kasia Niewiadoma is?The UCI YouTube channel has highlights of each stage.
The Americans are kicking ass!

Here are the final results:
1. Guarnier
2. Stevens
3. Van Der Breggen
4. Lichtenberg
5. Abbott
@Bespoke
No objections from me!
