Velominati Super Prestige: Men’s World Championship Road Race 2017

Peter Sagan has undergone quite the transformation over the years; starting as a brash and disrespectful neo-pro, he’s blossomed into one of the most exciting and charismatic racers in the bunch. A sort of modern-day Mario Cipollini.

And, as much as I dislike seeing riders dominate and take the excitement out of the sport, I love watching Peter race and I expect that if he manages to pull off his third straight worlds title, it was be a spectacular feat. Besides, he looks great in his black bibs with the bands, and I’ve gotten quite used to seeing him in those colors, so I don’t want to have to adjust to seeing another rider in them.

And, everybody knows you don’t ride triples; win triples.

Check the start list and good luck!

The founder of Velominati and curator of The Rules, Frank was born in the Dutch colonies of Minnesota. His boundless physical talents are carefully canceled out by his equally boundless enthusiasm for drinking. Coffee, beer, wine, if it’s in a container, he will enjoy it, a lot of it. He currently lives in Seattle. He loves riding in the rain and scheduling visits with the Man with the Hammer just to be reminded of the privilege it is to feel completely depleted. He holds down a technology job the description of which no-one really understands and his interests outside of Cycling and drinking are Cycling and drinking. As devoted aesthete, the only thing more important to him than riding a bike well is looking good doing it. Frank is co-author along with the other Keepers of the Cog of the popular book, The Rules, The Way of the Cycling Disciple and also writes a monthly column for the magazine, Cyclist. He is also currently working on the first follow-up to The Rules, tentatively entitled The Hardmen. Email him directly at rouleur@velominati.com.

I love coming to this site and do so on a near daily basis. I’ll be damned if I’ll look at a friggin’ facebook page every day. I’m sure it’s probably easier to host and maintain, but this site is/was a special wee oasis for those who chose to come here. Throwing it on facebook just seems wrong.

I, too, enjoy visiting here, it's got an entirely different feel than the other internets.  I still haven't been able to join in a cogal, FFS.  It can't end yet.

This is really ruining my day.

  • I'm posting the picture just as a test.  If it actually works, @RobSandy, try it with your build photo.

This pic does open up an internal conflict with me - this old Chris Chance was pretty nice.  He's back in business and I'm really tempted to pick up the new frame with modern steel.  Or a Jaegher.  Or a ....

Yeah - I'm juggling my retirement gift for myself.  Here is my leading candidate at the moment.  Though also fancy here but don't really want to wait 12 months or more!

Also will be going on a frame building course in the Summer and will make (at least) one myself.

  • All will be revealed in my book, "Death Of The V: How Frank fucked his friends for fame and fortune and became a COTHO."

  • @Brett

Ouch. And then there was one. Does that mean you’ve handed back the keys to the V-bunker?

i’m not sure it’s a story I want to hear but is there a plan or is the site going to be left to slowly decay?

Whatever happens it was good riding with you guys.

It’s been on FB for yonks.

Ha! Just shows how often I go on FB. I have a page (is that the right term?) but I have to say I never post anything and barely look at it from one end of a month to the other. That whole situation where people like to make out their lives are just one fabulous moment after another causing others to develop massive anxiety disorders because they FOMO, just depresses the hell out of me.

  • @Brett

Chill Brett, I've no idea whats going on.

Like others here, I've enjoyed this site, had some fun and made some friends.

It's sad to see it coming apart.

Not to mention the impression that you are morally judged on whether you "share" some picture, quote etc or not.  Since when did "share" on FB become the moral arbiter of our lives?

Surely we can drag this place back from it's small excursion to the Dark Side........
