Velominati Super Prestige: Men’s World Championship Road Race 2017

Peter Sagan has undergone quite the transformation over the years; starting as a brash and disrespectful neo-pro, he’s blossomed into one of the most exciting and charismatic racers in the bunch. A sort of modern-day Mario Cipollini.

And, as much as I dislike seeing riders dominate and take the excitement out of the sport, I love watching Peter race and I expect that if he manages to pull off his third straight worlds title, it was be a spectacular feat. Besides, he looks great in his black bibs with the bands, and I’ve gotten quite used to seeing him in those colors, so I don’t want to have to adjust to seeing another rider in them.

And, everybody knows you don’t ride triples; win triples.

Check the start list and good luck!

The founder of Velominati and curator of The Rules, Frank was born in the Dutch colonies of Minnesota. His boundless physical talents are carefully canceled out by his equally boundless enthusiasm for drinking. Coffee, beer, wine, if it’s in a container, he will enjoy it, a lot of it. He currently lives in Seattle. He loves riding in the rain and scheduling visits with the Man with the Hammer just to be reminded of the privilege it is to feel completely depleted. He holds down a technology job the description of which no-one really understands and his interests outside of Cycling and drinking are Cycling and drinking. As devoted aesthete, the only thing more important to him than riding a bike well is looking good doing it. Frank is co-author along with the other Keepers of the Cog of the popular book, The Rules, The Way of the Cycling Disciple and also writes a monthly column for the magazine, Cyclist. He is also currently working on the first follow-up to The Rules, tentatively entitled The Hardmen. Email him directly at rouleur@velominati.com.

  • Yes, it has been fun. Thanks to you all for the camaraderie. I love coming here and do so daily. It would be very sad for it to go away.

I’m posting the picture just as a test. If it actually works, @RobSandy, try it with your build photo.

This pic does open up an internal conflict with me – this old Chris Chance was pretty nice. He’s back in business and I’m really tempted to pick up the new frame with modern steel. Or a Jaegher. Or a ….

If a Slim Chance is the last bike foto posted on this site before it drifts in to forgotten spaces well then I suppose that that would be apropos. Cool bike ! Cheers

  • I have been lurking around for years but do not post much. Anyway, from what I gather from this site @Frank seems pretty dedicated to it, and the community. I know he fell, and hope he recovers quickly. I just hope its not more serious then what's been said.

Ha! Just shows how often I go on FB. I have a page (is that the right term?) but I have to say I never post anything and barely look at it from one end of a month to the other. That whole situation where people like to make out their lives are just one fabulous moment after another causing others to develop massive anxiety disorders because they FOMO, just depresses the hell out of me.

You've just summarised pretty much everything wrong with the world. And yes, Facebook has a lot to answer for. However, our cycling club is run on FB so I use it pretty frequently.

The other problem is I've got a technical problem with my build and now have nowhere to go to ask for help. I asked my actual friends, on Facebook, and they just took the piss. And I'm fucked if I'm taking it to a bike shop at this stage.

  • @RobSandy

Well we are still here for now, so ask away.

Re FB - it's a pretty sad reflection on the world when the arbiter of whether you are a moral person or care about something is whether you share a comment or picture on FB and not what you actually do in life itself.

Hopefully this place is taking only a short diversion into the Dark Side and the V-force will be stabilised before too long.

  • That's the FD, the cable running from the cable stop (which is a little cage on the seat tube) to the mounting bolt fouls on the back of the derailleur itself. The cable stop can't be moved and there doesn't seem to be any for/aft adjustment of the derailleur mount either.

I can't see it'd be a good thing to run a set up like this, apart from anything else the cable either hooks around the back of the rivet or frees itself and runs straight, so cable tension goes all to shit.
