Velominati Super Prestige: Men’s World Championship Road Race 2017

Peter Sagan has undergone quite the transformation over the years; starting as a brash and disrespectful neo-pro, he’s blossomed into one of the most exciting and charismatic racers in the bunch. A sort of modern-day Mario Cipollini.

And, as much as I dislike seeing riders dominate and take the excitement out of the sport, I love watching Peter race and I expect that if he manages to pull off his third straight worlds title, it was be a spectacular feat. Besides, he looks great in his black bibs with the bands, and I’ve gotten quite used to seeing him in those colors, so I don’t want to have to adjust to seeing another rider in them.

And, everybody knows you don’t ride triples; win triples.

Check the start list and good luck!

  22. Does anyone know what happened to the TV feed in the last few kilometers? I watched for hours only to miss the last 3K. The French announcers were going nuts after Aliphillipe attacked then I watched the final corner, sans riders, for several minutes.

  23. @Rick

A tweet said there was a power outage.

And yes, hearing the French announcers nearly scream as Alaphilippe, only for the feed to go out and them still convinced he would enter into view with the lead at the flamme rouge fixed camera was a good bit of side theatre.

Thanks, figured it had to be something technical. The coverage was great all day until the end.

  25. @Cary

COMPLETELY AMAZING!!! HOW DID HE MANAGE THAT??

What he said. Invisible all day then pops up in 3rd wheel, 800m to go.

    What a racer.

Nothwithstanding Lombardia, think this result might have it sewn up for me.

I could have missed someone scoring highly and beating us both, of course.

i watched this when you first posted it again, and i REALLY liked it for some reason.  now, after watching it again, i know why.  there’s no announcer yammering away in my ear, telling me shit i don’t need or want to know.  bike racing is even more beautiful this way.  years ago, Douglas Maicon scored a GORGEOUS goal against Juventus, and the first footage on the ‘net had no play by play.  i must have watched that goal a thousand times, no exaggeration at all.  still one of the most beautiful things i’ve seen in my life.

I have often wished for an SAP option of only crowd noise. I don’t need announcers telling me what is going on when I know as well, or better than they do. The crowd noise would enhance the experience and be a better option than simply muting all sound.
