Velominati Super Prestige: Women’s Ronde van Vlaanderen 2012

Oenone Wood rocks up the Kapelmuur

The Velominati Super-Prestige continues with our second Women’s event of 2012, the Women’s Ronde van Vlaanderen. This one is made even more exciting for me by the fact that I now have some small connection to the Women’s Tibco Racing Team, as I watched with envy as they each pulled their bikes off the oversized baggage carrousel in Schiphol. Classy girls, each of them; they were really having a good time laughing in the giggly kind of way you can only understand if you’ve ever been jet lagged.

Sadly, this gives me no insight whatsoever into who might or might not be within a chance of winning the event, or placing in the top V. But be that as it may, get your VSP picks in by the time the countdown counter drops to zero for a chance to win the Women’s VSP. Winner of this VSP event will earn the right to comment all year with the Leeuw van Vlaanderen commenting badge. We will also forgo the usual Symbol Pack prize awarded to a Monument and award the winner a copy of the local newspaper the day after the race.

The founder of Velominati and curator of The Rules, Frank was born in the Dutch colonies of Minnesota. His boundless physical talents are carefully canceled out by his equally boundless enthusiasm for drinking. Coffee, beer, wine, if it’s in a container, he will enjoy it, a lot of it. He currently lives in Seattle. He loves riding in the rain and scheduling visits with the Man with the Hammer just to be reminded of the privilege it is to feel completely depleted. He holds down a technology job the description of which no-one really understands and his interests outside of Cycling and drinking are Cycling and drinking. As devoted aesthete, the only thing more important to him than riding a bike well is looking good doing it. Frank is co-author along with the other Keepers of the Cog of the popular book, The Rules, The Way of the Cycling Disciple and also writes a monthly column for the magazine, Cyclist. I'm a total sponsor whore. When a company sponsors bike shitte I like, I buy their crap when given a choice. I realized I have no idea what Tibco makes or sells, so I looked at their web site. No mention of their cycling team, and I still have no idea what they make or sell. Some tech stuff, I guess.

But then again, I've no idea what most of these sponsors make. I know what a "Nissan" is, and RadioShack is famous for overpriced crappe. Quickstep is flooring, but apparently not available in the US.

When I hit the MegaMillions, @Frank is gonna get a call. Velominati will have a pro team. And all us assholes will be invited to a Cogal that you won't believe.

You could do worse than betting on a Greenedge rider, the women's team has had even more success than the men's so far this year.
