Velominati Super Prestige: Women’s Ronde van Vlaanderen 2017

A year ago, you’d have gotten strange looks if you picked anyone other than Lizzie Deignen (Armistead) for the win. This year is another story and I quite frankly (Frahnkly) can’t pick a favorite, although Lizzie is sure to feature. But getting married apparently doesn’t do much for your racing campaign; just ask Miguel Indurain, who got married, lost the Tour de France, and retired immediately. Sensible.

Chantal Blaak is looking good, and Emma Johansson always seems to show up for a good result. But honestly, it feels like a Magic Eightball would be more likely to pick the result than would any of us. Once again I apologize for the short picks window, but it is what it is. Make the most of it and get your picks in by the time the countdown clock goes to zero.

Good luck!

  • Rivera wins ! Super. What a sprint. And how about van der Breggen sitting on the back of the break and for what ?? Zero. Perfect. Sit on and get Zero for her and Boels Dolman. And van Vleuten is so strong to pull and pull in the break and still after getting caught stay in top 5. That was fun to watch.

  • 3rd & 4th in the correct places if that result is official.

Is the leader board going up at any point? We've not had any pick results or overall standings so far this season. I know it's very early days in the prestige but it would be nice to see.

  • Great ride from Rivera, the pocket rocket. Good to see Gracie Elvin on the podium.

  • Delgado'ed another one! I'm going to have to come up with some better than just "Fuck!" Would be nice if VSP consistently opened up before the weekend. I just get busy with family and other stuff (y'know ... like riding my bike) on the weekend and don't pay as much attention to my computer. C'est la vie.

  • COME on! What's the feminin version of "To Delgado"?

    to Delgada?

    to Delgalda?

    to Delgirldo?

    to Damegado?

Cuz I am becoming proficient at that....

Has a female pro ever missed the start of a race while wearing the leader's jersey as last year's winner? Because it'd be that.

Otherwise it's just plain old Delgado.

And when you score as badly as me you'll find that the difference between Delgado-ing and not is pretty small.

I was thinking the same thing.

I checked exactly that on the interwebs before I submitted the post, but the all-omniscient e-dungeons produced zilch. Only produces names of female cyclists who started their cycling career at a later age. Jeannie Longo only started apparently when she was 21. So to "Longo" instead of to "Delgado" could be an alternative for the Lexicon.

This. Super sprint. Forced into going really early and needed to go deep into the cave to maintain it. Awesome. And +1 for VV. Great initials - very fitting.
